About us
The Horseshoe Inn is a Restaurant with Rooms in the sleepy village of Eddleston, just 5 miles north of the Royal Burgh of Peebles and just 20 miles south of Scotland’s Capital City, Edinburgh.
The Horseshoe Inn was originally a Blacksmith’s smiddy while the village’s former Victorian Primary School has been converted into 8 individually decorated, luxuriously appointed bedrooms.
In 2007, The Horseshoe Inn became the only 3 AA Rosette restaurant in the Scottish Borders; that year, we were also awarded 4 stars (Highly Commended by the AA) for our accommodation and named AA Restaurant of the Year for Scotland 2007-08. In 2009, we were awarded an EatScotland Gold Award.
There are 2 dining options available at The Horseshoe Inn, the Fine Dining Restaurant and our Bistro.
The Restaurant is where our Chefs showcase their skills and talents producing food that is not only pleasing on the eye but provides flavours that will live long in the memory.
You can choose from the regularly changing A la Carte menu or for a truly memorable experience, try the Tasting Menu with the hand selected matched wines.
The Bistro offers a less formal dining experience but the food available is still full of flavor and visually appealing.
Awards
The Horseshoe Inn has been awarded a selection of awards:
AA Restaurant of the Year Scotland 2007-2008
At the AA Hospitality Awards held on Monday 1st October 2007 at The Balmoral, Edinburgh, we were awarded the prestigious AA Restaurant of the Year Scotland 2007-2008 Award.
To quote the AA, "Whilst the standard of cuisine is at the very heart of the selection criteria of this award, innovation, ambience, service and hospitality are all part of the equation that determines the eventual winners".
Awarded 3 AA Rosettes
At the AA Hospitality Awards 2007-2008 held on Monday 1st October 2007 at The Balmoral, Edinburgh, we were the proud recipient of our 3rd AA Rosette, the only 3 Rosette restaurant in the Scottish Borders.
To quote the AA say, this award takes The Horseshoe “into the big league” where “expectations of the kitchen are high; exact technique, flair and imagination must come through in every dish, and balance and depth of flavour are all-important”. Restaurants awarded three, four or five AA Rosettes represent “The Top Ten Per Cent” of the restaurants in their Guide; with only 3 Restaurants in Scotland having 4 Rosettes and 22 having 3 Rosettes, we are now in esteemed company and the only establishment in the Scottish Borders to have attained this special status.
Awarded 4 AA Stars, Highly Commended
In January 2007, The Horseshoe Inn was awarded 4 Stars by the AA for the 8 bedrooms in The Horseshoe Lodge; VisitScotland also awarded us 4 Stars for our Accommodation. We are pleased to announce that in June 2007, our accommodation was “Highly Commended” by the AA placing it within the Top 10% of our starring category.
This accolade is highlighted by the AA with the use of Yellow Stars.
EatScotland Gold Award
In 2009 we proudly received an EatScotland Gold Award.
To quote EatScotland, to be considered for a Gold Award, Restaurants must demonstrate outstanding levels of quality in key areas of food and service which puts them in the very small and select bank of operators that can stand worldwide comparison. Gold Awards are inevitably few in number and are by definition worth making a special destination by all lovers of excellent food.
EatScotland Gold Award
In 2009, The Horseshoe Inn was awarded an EatScotland Gold Award, the ultimate recognition from the Quality Assurance “where to eat” scheme operated by Visit Scotland.
The Gold Award requires a Restaurant to demonstrate outstanding levels of quality in key areas of food and service which puts them in the very small and select band of operators that can stand world-wide comparison. These Restaurants are inevitably few in number and by definition worth making a special destination by all lovers of excellent food.
"There's little doubt that this romantic restaurant with rooms is now on the good food map."

"We were left with a memory of subtle flavours, good quality ingredients, great service ...and full tums!!! The vegetable sorbets were delicious - what imagination!!!"
Brian & Susan Walker - Peebles
"A wonderful evening with the best food I have EVER tasted. Thank you very much indeed."
Simon & Maggie Byford - Kinross
"I and three others dined this evening in The Horseshoe Inn and Lodge Eddleston about 17 miles south of Edinburgh. The food was outstanding in every way - delicious, artistic, creative, correct amount, imaginative, different, elegantly served, wonderful blend of tastes and the chef, Patrick supported by his partner Vivienne and an excellent team deserve to be inspected by a Michelin representative if anyone does. I have eaten all over the world and I really think this was the best meal but one I have ever tasted. Tonight was in a small inn very near my own home - unpretentious, tastefully decorated with tremendous attention to detail but very remarkable."
Mr & Mrs Goodburn
"We came to lunch at your Inn, what we were expecting and the experience we had were two totally different things. We enjoy and appreciate good food that is well cooked and imaginatively presented. We also value good but not intrusive service. We enjoyed all of these things at The Horseshoe Inn. The food was truly superb and the service second to none. All of this at a reasonable price."
Carol & Michael Outhwaite Dumfriesshire
"Martin & I would like to thank you for a truly awesome experience, it made the 8 hours drive all worthwhile. We have spoken of little else and keep reverting back to the little elements of the evening and admiring your attention to detail, the fabulous service and the tantalising food meticulously presented by Patrick."
Martin & Theresa Jeffrey
"A beautiful restaurant, Exemplary Service & Food-to-die-for."
Mr & Mrs Brock, Peebles
